Our Participants

How our participants can get involved

As a member Group of RDA we welcome children and adults who have a disability (physical, learning or sensory) to our centre in South Buckinghamshire.

As a purpose-built centre, we provide riding and horse-based activities throughout the year. Riders can join groups or have private tuition.

Our facilities include a 20 x 40 indoor arena and 20 x 60 outdoor arena.  We also have a classroom for lessons on horse management.

Lessons and Competitions

Individual and small group  lessons for riders  during the week and at weekends are arranged and special events, such as grooming sessions and own a pony morning, take place during school holidays.

All riders are assessed before joining the group so that we can determine the best horse or pony for them and the best lesson format.

We welcome individuals and school groups – schools who currently ride with us include Arbour Vale School.

As well as lessons, our participants can progress to competition level if they desire and we regularly attend competitions both at the centre and around the country.

We currently have availability for weekday lessons and operate a waiting list for weekend rides.

Tea With A Pony

South Bucks Riding for the Disabled Association (SBRDA) is delighted to offer Tea with a Pony, a special activity designed to bring enjoyment, companionship and meaningful experiences to people living with dementia and other similar conditions.

Horses have a calming presence and a unique ability to connect with people, helping to create moments of happiness, comfort and engagement. For many participants, these sessions provide an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, interact with gentle animals and share social experiences in a welcoming and supportive environment. Our Tea with a Pony guests are usually from local care homes or community groups and attend alongside carers and/or family members.

Each Tea with a Pony session begins with refreshments, giving everyone a chance to relax, chat and get to know one another. The friendly atmosphere encourages conversation and connection, whether participants attend with family members, friends or carers.

After refreshments, participants are introduced to one of South Bucks RDA’s calm and friendly ponies and guests can spend time stroking, grooming or simply being close to the pony.

‘I have ridden for some years but wanted to work with a coach that could understand my dystonia in a way that could improve my riding and take it to another level.  I have found Theresa incredibly inspiring.  She knows how to push me and has encouraged me to achieve things I didn’t feel were possible.  Since starting at RDA I have made new friends (equine and human!) and it has given me a confidence I don’t feel elsewhere.  It has become a very important part of my life and I’m incredibly grateful to all the staff who work so tirelessly to make this possible.’

If you would like to ride or are interested in enjoying our horses please get in touch.

All of our volunteers are encouraged to undertake safeguarding training,
